South Indian superstar Rajinikanth, who has more than 100 Tamil films to his credit, was shifted Wednesday night to the intensive care unit of a Chennai hospital, according to a bulletin issued by the hospital.
Mr. Rajinikanth was first admitted at Chennai's Sri Ramachandra Medical Center last Friday for respiratory and gastro-intestinal problems.
"To improve his breathing pattern he has been shifted to the intensive care unit and now he is showing positive response to the treatment," the bulletin said.
The bulletin added that a team of doctors with different areas of expertise has been appointed to "closely watch" the actor's vital parameters.
According to news reports, the actor had been put on dialysis, a treatment used for kidney malfunction, two days after he underwent a procedure to drain fluids from his lungs. A spokesman for the hospital declined to comment on the matter on Thursday.
"Rajinikanth is undergoing treatment in the [intensive care unit] and all his vital parameters are responding well," was all T.G Nallamuthu, the spokesman for the hospital said.
