MagicBox: 10/27/11

A lot has transpired since my last post. This month I have traveled to Joplin (MO), Clarksville, Fort Smith, and Philadelphia. Yes, as in PA. Marion and I attended a part-time MBA conference there. It was nice to see some old friends and get up to date on the latest and greatest regarding this program. Tomorrow I will visit Arkansas Tech in Russellville. Next week will round out my fall recruiting schedule and I'll be in Conway Wednesday and Thursday - UCA on Wednesday and Hendrix on Thursday. Wednesday evening I will be meeting Kellen Utecht, an MBA/MPS student, and some prospective MBA students in Little Rock. Kellen is helping us recruit at the Clinton School. We offer a joint degree with the Master of Public Service, offered at the Clinton School. It's a great option for those looking at going into non-profit.

As far as what else I've been up to: Jack's last football game was this last Saturday. This was his first year of tackle football. He played 6 games, all on Saturdays. He also played a mini (4 week) session of basketball, also on Saturdays. That is over as well. Thank goodness. Mom is worn out.

Zoey is running cross country. This is her first year and I think she's done great. She's run in 5 meets and has placed in 3 (in order: 5th, 1st, and 14th). The Conference meet is this Saturday.

This Saturday is also a home game against South Carolina. Go HOGS!

Oh, I almost forgot. We also held our Fall Open House and Social last week. We had a great turnout. The next event will be in February. I can't believe it's already the end of October. The semester will be over before I know it which means MBA Orientation is around the corner (January 9-13). The current class has 35 students. We will wrap up admissions the end of November. Our goal is 40 and I am confident we'll reach it.

Threshold Art-1

Threshold means an entrance or door way. Threshold (door frame) for us Indians has lot of significance. Especially the threshold of main door. In olden days, houses of rich and royalty or those houses which were very big, temples and forts had huge doors and huge thresholds ie., the main doors leading into the house. I remember in my child hood, all the houses had thresholds (the main one) that were one foot wide and one foot high at the bottom. Even the rooms inside the house had thresholds but were in smaller size.The doors and thresholds were generally made of fine quality teak wood.

Decorating the upper portion of the doorways with torans, I am already covering that under the head "Torans". Here I am talking about the bottom portion of the door ways. Here after when I mention threshold, it refers to the bottom portion of the door frame. This is known as Chaukhat in Hindi and Gadapa in Telugu.

Washington's tone was so threatening that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had to assure the Pakistani press Oct. 21 that the U.S. did not plan a ground offensive against Pakistan. The next day, Afghan President Hamid Karzai shocked Washington by declaring "God forbid, If ever there is a war between Pakistan and America, Afghanistan will side with Pakistan.... This new income-based plan is not available to people who graduated in 2011 or earlier and have no plans to take out any new federal loans. Instead, you must have at least one federal loan from no earlier than 2008 and also take out one more in 2012 or later to qualify.

Libya: Stockpiles Of Chemical Weapons Found -- The Telegraph

Chemical weapons have been found in Libya by National Transitional Council forces, a representative of the movement that ousted the late Muammar Gaddafi has said.

The NTC said the chemical warheads had been secured and would be made safe by experts.

Peon bring tiffin for Kunal. Kunal says he got lunch and didnt order. Peon says its not order but brought by someone else for you. Kunal takes and sends him off. He opens the box and wonders PASTHA then says Richa. He thinks Richa sent it and wonders why RIcha is doing this drama n doubts Sidhi might have told her him being upset. what is this all happening. Kunal gets a call. He asks what is all this, why u sent this Pasna. Richa says becoz u r upset. Kunal thinks Sidhi might have told her. He asks who told her. She says after what all I said to u tht day. He says so u r talking about that day. (He is always in look out reasons blame his wife..I hate his attitude towards Sidhi..) but why u need to send this. RIcha says she was feeling bad as she brought his past wounds back. Kunal looks irks but Richa tries to justify herself saying she did it for his good. but he says she does not need to do anything for him. Richa says its not necessary that they need to be enemies whole life. She says she wants to say sorry so sent Pastha, but u know if he thought anything else about you what I would have done.

FB*** Kunal Richa are in bed (Naz is getting cough…quite close…I mean…) Kunal asks Richa he makes Pastha if she is angry n pacifies her, but she never made Pastha for him. Richa says she does not know to cook n he does not even get angry. He say pacify me, she says get angry first. He says I am upset now pacify. Richa is like o really u will not talk to me if I dont pacify you. She jumps over him and starts kissing all over his face (hadd hai…why should this come when I am doing WU…). They both laugh.

We got our first look at Japan's Defense Ministry's spherical flying machine earlier this year, but at a recent technology expo in Tokyo the hovering ball got the full coming-out treatment, complete with public demos eliciting "ooohs" and "aaaahs." The video below shows the drone doing everything it was designed to do: zipping around omnidirectionally, rolling across the floor, and staying aloft even when it strikes--or is struck by--an obstacle.

My Comment: Personal confession ... I am wowed by this demonstration. Science fiction is now reality. Expect this drone .... or sometime like it .... become standard issue (budgets permitting) for the military in a few years.

At Occupy Wall Street, "children are becoming an increasing presence..."

The NYT paints a pretty picture of the practice of taking little kids to protests. I think it's a terrible idea to bring children. I wouldn't expose a child to the various health hazards (including loud noise), and I don't think it's right to use children as props. If the child isn't old enough to understand what is going on and to choose to go, it's exploitation. Now, I know the parents who spoke to the Times portrayed themselves as teaching their children about the protest, but why do you have to go down there in person to talk about the various political and economic issues? Why overwhelm a child with crowds and passionate adult expression? Are you really developing the child's mind? Or are these justifications you've made up after you've decided, for your own reasons, to drag your child along to something that's important to you?
