Krishna University has been established vide Andhra Pradesh Act.No.4 off 1991, G.O Ms. No.89 Higher Education dated 25/06/2008 and G.O Ms. No.109, Higher Education department dated 14/07/2008, with the state government initiative at Machilipatnam, as head quarters of Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. On 23/04/08, Honble Chief Minister Dr.Y Rajasekhar Reddy has laid the foundation stone for the University.A High power committee constituted by the Govt of AP has visited Machilipatnam on 16/04/2008 and identified 200 Acers of land at Tavisapudi village, 8 Kilometers from Machilipatnam town towards Manginapudi beach.
Prof M K Durga Prasad Professor in Zoology and Aquaculture, Acharya Nagarguna University was appointed as first Vice Chancellor of Krishna University, Machiliaptnam, vide G.O Ms. No.137 dated 28/07/2008 and took charge as Vice Chancellor on the fore noon of 28/07/2008.Dr. Y Kishore Director of Physical Education, Acharya Nagarjuna University was appointed as first Registrar of Krishna University and took charge on 23/08/2008.

Like a demon, AIDS has killed more than 25 million people worldwide between 1981 and 2007. It has been recognized as one of the worst diseases for the mankind. Seeing the severity of the disease, Jonathan Mann, director of the Global Programme on Aids at the World Health Organization (WHO) propounded the concept of World AIDS Day. Consequently, WHO declared December 1, 1988 as the first World Aids Day.
On Dec 1, 2008, the World AIDS Day completed its 20th anniversary. This gives us an opportunity to assess how much progress has been made by India in the direction of AIDS awareness and its prevention. I must admit that our government, several NGOs, and charitable institutions have made AIDS awareness campaign a big success during the last two decades. This has been possible also due to the involvement of international organizations and WHO in the various campaigns related to AIDS.

Former Telecom Minister Sukhram was today kicked and slapped by a man inside the premises of a Delhi court just moments after he was sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment in connection with a corruption case dating back to 1996.The assailant identified as Harvinder Singh was immediately nabbed and whisked away by the police.He had been thrown out of the court earlier in the day after he misbehaved with the former minister and complained about the court order taking so long.
Sukhram has been convicted yesterday by the court for taking Rs. 3 lakh as bribe to give a lucrative contract to a private firm in 1996.Apart from the five year jail term he will also have to pay a fine of Rs. 4 lakh.The former Telecom Minister had earlier pleaded for leniency in the court on grounds of his old age while the CBI called him a habitual offender and sought maximum punishment for him.
Sukhram 86 had been held guilty for misusing his official position during his tenure as Telecom Minister in P V Narasimha Rao Cabinet in giving a contract worth Rs. 30 crore to private firm Haryana Telecom Limited to supply 3.5 Lakh Conductor Kilometers of Polythene Insulated Jelly Filled cables to the telecom department.

National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) was established by the Government of India in the year 1961 with a view to bringing about qualitative improvement in school education in the country.No sooner the Council was set up than it mounted a number of programmes in this direction.One such programme was to identify and nurture the talented students.This programme took up the shape of a scheme called National Science Talent Search Scheme (NSTSS) in the year 1963 which provided for the identification of talented students and awarding them with scholarships.
During the first year of the implementation of the scheme it was confined to the Union Territory of Delhi wherein only 10 scholarships were awarded to the Class XI students.In the year 1964 the scheme was extended to all the states and the union territories in the country with 350 scholarships for the students of Class XI.These scholarships were awarded on the basis of a written examination, a project report and interview.The written examination comprised the Science Aptitude Test and an Essay on a given scientific theme.The candidates were to submit the project report at the time of the written examination.
