VMware Partner Activation Codes (PAC) Explained

Details
What is a Partner Activation Code (PAC) and how is it used?
Solution

Orders placed through VMware, or its partners, have unique identifiers associated with them.

VMware products purchased through a VMware partner are identified by a VMware Partner Activation Code that is activated through the registration process through a self-service Partner Activation Portal. A VMware License Activation Code is a unique code that is released when a customer successfully registers the Partner Activation Code in the Partner Activation Portal.

The VMware License Redemption Portal is a self-service portal for customers to redeem License Activation Codes and download license files to use with VMware Infrastructure 3.

To activate a new license purchased from an OEM Partner

When a VMware product is purchased from an OEM Partner, you are provided with one or more Partner Activation Codes (PAC).
  1. In order to get the License Activation Code (LAC), register this PAC. If you have registered with VMware in the past, simply sign in. Otherwise, you have to register first. The PAC is for single use. After its registration, you will not need it again in the future.
  2. After you register the PAC, look for an email with your product serial # or LAC.
  3. Download the product.
  4. Create and download the new license file.

To activate an upgrade license from an OEM partner

  1. Sign in to your VMware account or register a new account.
  2. Register your Partner Activation Code, which is provided by the OEM partner.
  3. Enter the old serial number or LAC (for example, from Standard to Enterprise). The system generates a new upgraded LAC.
  4. Register this new LAC on your VMware account.
  5. Generate a new license file with the upgraded licenses.
