Obama dances, celebrates Diwali in India

www.timesofearth.com President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle began their second day in India at The Holy Name High School in Mumbai. Michelle donned a black-and-white sheath, a pink cardigan and black kitten heels -- let's call them her dancing shoes, because, yes, there was more dancing involved today. MUMBAI, India — President Barack Obama showed off his dance skills — or lack thereof, depending on your view — at a celebration of Diwali, the festival of lights, Sunday morning. The president was lured to the dance floor by a group of students at a school in Mumbai, where he and first lady Michelle Obama were treated to a performance in an auditorium adorned with strings of lights, candles and fresh flower garlands. The students, dressed in Indian folk costumes in vibrant shades of orange, green, blue and pink, performed a choreographed dance for the first couple, some with baskets on their heads, before they were joined by their audience. It didn't take much effort to get the first lady, whose dancing at a classroom the day before was a big hit among the India media, to her feet. The president was a more reluctant participant. "Notice they didn't ask me," he joked, likely relieved. But eventually he was dragged onto the dance floor, an image that will forever exist in video. The Obamas also spent time Sunday morning with some 10th-grade students who had created several dioramas focusing on environmental issues. There was a model of an ecofriendly village, a blue ...
